Drink Of The Week

Konig Ludwig Weissbier

This is another imported German beer. This company claims to be descended from the original brewers of the Bavarian Royal Family. Whatever. They make a nice Heferweizen. You can taste the thick wheat flavor.

Types of Tequilas

I'm going to switch things up this week. This week  instead of a recipe, I'm going teach you about the different types of tequilas.

Silver/Blanco

It is clear and typically un-aged, where the true flavors and the intensity of the Agave are present, as well as the natural sweetness. It can be bottled directly after distillation, or stored in stainless steel tanks to settle for up to 4 weeks. There are some Blanco products that are aged for up to 2 months to provide a smoother or "Suave" spirit.

Reposado

A Reposado Tequila is the first stage of "rested and aged". The Tequila is aged in wood barrels or storage tanks between 2 months and 11 months. The spirit takes on a golden hue and the taste becomes a good balance between the Agave and wood flavors. Many different types of wood barrels are used for aging, with the most common being American or French oak.

Añejo (extra aged)

After aging for at least one year, Tequila can then be classified as an "Añejo". The distillers are required to age Añejo Tequila in barrels that do not exceed 600 liters. This aging process darkens the Tequila to an Amber color, and the flavor can become smoother, richer, and more complex.

Gold

Gold Tequila is typically a Mixto, where colorants and flavorings have been added prior to bottling. These "young and adulterated" Tequilas are less expensive and used in many bars and restaurants for "mixed drinks".

There are exceptions however, as a "Gold" or "Joven" Tequila can also be the result of blending a Silver Tequila with a Reposado and/or Añejo Tequila, while keeping the 100% Agave classification (High-end Gold) .

I chose to use Patron for my examples, because Patron uses ribbons and matching color boxes to differentiate the types of tequilas. I hope it makes it easier for you to figure out the differences as well.

Enjoy and Drink Responsibly.

 Skittles Vodka

So here's another way to get rid of your leftover candy. If you have some leftover Skittles, you can try to make some Skittles Vodka. This is really simple to make but kinda time consuming.
All you need is some vodka and skittles.

These is a picture of a batch of skittle vodka my friends and I made one random night.
I learned this from Tipsy Bartender and here's a video and the recipe of how to make it:

We also tried Jolly Rancher Vodka and it tasted even better!

 Franziskaner Weissbier

This is a tasty Hefeweizen imported from Germany. Fortunately it's not too hard to find here in the States. This is my favorite type of beer. You can taste the rich wheat and malt and can see the cloudiness. Serve it cold, but not too cold. Get a nice glass and pour slowly.

Jungle Juice

This post is for people trying to get F'd up for Halloween weekend. My friends and I tried this recipe and it was soo good. I got so wasted I had to get driven home. This recipe is from Tipsy Bartender:

I' m keeping it simple this week. Enjoy and have a Happy Halloween.

The Hurricane New Orleans Style

Sitting at home after a weekend of drinking with my friends, I thought about what drink I should feature on "The Drink of the Week". Scanning though the channels and I see a football game is playing; it's the New Orleans Saints vs. Green Bay Packers.  While watching the game my mind wondered back to what drink I should feature on "The Drink of the Week" and I eventually came up
with the New Orleans classic "The Hurricane"

Hurricane, New Orleans Style Recipe
1 oz white rum
1 oz Jamaican dark rum
1 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
3 oz orange juice
3 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
crushed ice

Enjoy!!! Drink Responsibly!!
