New York Style Sandwiches
-4 pieces Rye bread
-Swiss cheese
-1/4 pound corned beef
-1/4 pound pastrami
-1 small can of sauerkraut
-Russian dressing
-Yellow mustard
Makes 2 sandwiches
Melt butter in a small or medium saute pan. While butter is melting spread butter over 2 pieces of bread. At the same time, begin to boil water in a small sauce pan. When butter has melted, place one slice of the bread butter side down, and begin to build the sandwich in the pan. Spread some Russian dressing on the bottom slice, then add Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and corned beef. Spread some more dressing on the final slice, and top off the sandwich. As the Reuben is cooking, add pastrami to the boiling water, and cooking for a few minutes, only heating the meat through. Once the bread on the Reuben begins to brown on the bottom, flip the sandwich and cook the other side of the sandwich. When the pastrami has heated up, place meat on paper towels to dry off. Assemble the pastrami sandwich with remaining pieces of bread, adding Swiss cheese and mustard on both pieces of bread. When Reuben has browned on the second side, remove from pan and both sandwiches are ready to be served. Serve with pickles, french fries, and a Dr. Browns soda and you'll feel like your sitting at a table in Carnegie Deli! Enjoy!
