Wisconsin is home to a lot of people of German ancestry. It's home to Packers fans too. Let's salute our friends in Wisconsin with this beer bratwurst recipe. It's one of their favorite snacks while watching their game on Sunday. It's as easy as it is delicious.
2lb fresh bratwurst sausages
2 thinly sliced onions
1 cup of melted butter
6 12oz cans of cheap beer
1-1/2 teaspoons black pepper
plenty of hoagie rolls (the good ones - not the cheap hotdog rolls)
Brown mustard
Combine the beer, butter, onions and pepper in a big pot and simmer. Puncture the brats with a fork. Add the brats into the pot and simmer the whole thing on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Then, take the brats out and grill or broil them until they're done. Toast the rolls and add the brats onto them. Get some of the now-soft, juicy onions and layer them over the brats. Add mustard and enjoy.
